Apartments and Hotels in Kuala Lumpur – Suitable for Digital Nomads
This is a list for Digital Nomads looking for accommodation in the tropical city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which I personally love for it’s atmosphere, the relatively low prices but high standard of living for Nomads (good food, transportation, nightlife, cafes, English is prevalent, Internet is pretty good etc.).
I composed my list below for nomads with an medium budget. I personally like to work from the flat/room instead of (noisy) cafés. So in my opinion it’s important to have a comfortable and cozy room to be able to work productively and comfortably for a full day. It shouldn’t be too small, have a table with soft seat/chair, have of course windows and ideally is quiet. I have not tested all of the below (only the few marked with an asterisks). The list will be updated in case something changes or I have tested one of these places personally.
Update March 21, 2016:
Also checkout www.carihomestay.net/. Often a cheaper alternative to AirBnB. Also, try to find local landlords which rent out their appartments on a monthly basis. It’s not that easy, as most of the listed options want a minimum tenancy of six months.
I listed two more apartments which I researched while staying here in KL for now six months already.
By the way, in my opinion, an ideal location for nomads is the Bangsar district, as it’s not far from down town, yet quiet and has loads of charme. Also important: the nice co-working space „The Co.“ has its second location there.
AirBnB Apartments
1. I staid for a week in the following place and absolutely loved it (especially for the building, which has great facilities). It’s a little bit on the pricey side and hence maybe not for a long term stay, depending on your budget:
Discounts (seen on Feb 24, 2016):
Weekly: 5%
Monthly: 10%
2. This one seems interesting. Looks great and is not too expensive. Drawback: It’s outside KL. But 30 minutes by car (Uber) shouldn’t be too big of a problem if you want to get work done anyway.
Discounts (seen on Feb 24, 2016):
Weekly: 15%
Monthly: 30%
3. I would also consider the one below if you don’t mind that it’s a shared room (can be fun, depends what you like).
Discounts (seen on Feb 24, 2016):
Weekly: 15%
Monthly: 30%
4. Another unit in the same building as listing No. 1. It has a weekly rate of 220$ (+40$ fees) and monthly 830$ + ~100$ fees (as seen on Feb 24, 2016):
Update 21 March 2016:
Following are two more good options:
5.
For nomads which have certain requirements for their accommodation, but also need to be cost concious, it makes sense to move a bit further away from central KL.
The place below is in a suburban district of KL, but in about 20 minutes you’re down town if you ride with Uber or any other kind of taxi (for about 5 US$ / 20 MYR). The saving on the rent make it worth anyway.
6.
The following is a nice option if you’d like to stay closer to downtown, but in a quiet residential area. Ideal for two friends/colleagues (or two couples):
7.
Also not too far from Bangsar district (where the co-working space „The Co.“ has a location, see above) and close to the Mid Valley Mega Mall which has everything you need, is the place below where I stayed for six weeks and felt very comfortable:
Hotels
I don’t really recommend hotels for Digital Nomads, except if you don’t want to work in the room anyway. For all others, it’s really practical to have a small kitchen and not being disturbed by cleaning personell during the day. That’s just my opinion.
Pacific Express Hotel Central Market Kuala Lumpur
I picket this one for the good ratings, the fair price and especially the work desk in the room. Location is pretty good too.
I picked this one for it’s relatively low price with good ratings. Also the location is great.
